Αγώνας για τα άγρια ζώα της Ρωσίας (Support wild animals of Russia)

Οι πολίτες της Ρωσίας ζητούν τη στήριξή μας για την συλλογή υπογραφών ενάντια στον βασανισμό και την δολοφονία των άγριων ζώων. Με τις ευλογίες της ρωσικής κυβέρνησης οι κυνηγοί εκπαιδεύουν τα σκυλιά τους σκοτώνοντας άγρια ζώα. Εκατοντάδες άγρια ζώα ζουν σε συνθήκες αιχμαλωσίας σε κέντρα εκπαίδευσης κυνηγετικών σκύλων και αργοπεθαίνουν από τα βάρβαρα βασανιστήρια που υπομένουν. We the citizens of Russia appeal to world society and ask you to support our demand for the ban of hounding; the training of hunting dogs by killing living animals, allowed by Russian legislation.
It is barbaric, sadistic and out-dated.

There are lots of training centres in Russia where wild animals are kept as prisoners and victimised. They are bitten and torn to pieces by hunting dogs for money. Hounding is a business. Foxes, bears, raccoons, wolves, boars, badgers, squirrels, hares, martens and their cubs are sacrificed, as well as  other species of animals. Lions for example,  for people hunting in other countries. Federal legislation allows training on living animals all year round and does not take into account the biological special requirements of the animals.

They simply live in hell. They are kept in small, dirty cages covered in their excrement. The cages are so small that the animals can hardly move or change position. They are so hungry that they do not have enough strength to try to protect themselves against the dogs. They only leave their cages to be bitten and tortured by the dogs. If they are wounded or crippled, they are not treated but used for training dogs again and again until they die from their wounds, or from shock or shot, as they are no longer any use to this ‘bloody  school’.

 These training centres are advertised as ‘very thorough’, for training dogs on living prey, even if they are not going to be actually used for hunting purposes. This sadism is advertised in hunting literature and on hunting websites. For the introduction of dogs and to encourage and develop aggressiveness they initially recommend the use of stray cats and fox cubs.

The training does not only take place in ‘training centres’. After a female bear or fox has been killed they recommend training the dogs to then kill the cubs. For example in the book ‘Hunting Dog Breeding’ written by V. Leontiev, this is recommended.

 ‘’In a forest meadow they should bind a wolf. A hunter with helpers delivers and holds a pack of dogs 100 steps away from the wolf. The pack surveys the rushing wolf and attacts it. The hunter comes to the pack and encourages the dogs. Take it take it! (which means tear it tear it) After they have finished with the wolf the dogs should be kept attached, two days later the hunting should be repeated on another wolf without 2 or 3 of the more aggressive dogs , so the less aggressive dogs could tear the wolf up.’’

They put a wooden stick in the mouth of the wolf and bind the mouth. They use 8-10 month old wolf cubs.
In the ‘Great Encyclopedia of the Hunt’, (Ripol, Classic, Moscow 2010) they recommend training a puppy for the hunt on animal burrows.

 ‘’At first they use a fox with bound mouth and bound  back legs with a rope. Then the fox is pushed with a stick into a burrow, till the hunter commands, Look! And the puppy will find the animal and begin to bark at the command, ‘’take it!’’ Soon the dog will tear the fox up’’

 The more aggressive and malicious the dog is the more valuable it is and is used for breeding. The hunters conduct competitions among the hunting dogs where the hounding animals are attacked during several days. For example, if a laika dog bites the back legs of bears, they are the most soft and sensitive places for the bear, the better the laika is.

Russian Kynological Federation wrote hounding rules for dog breeds that are used for hunting wild animals. There is not a single word in Russian legislation about how the wild animals should be treated and kept.

The tragic story of a small bear Motya is known worldwide. He was an Ursus Arctos Isabellinus- a rare subspecies of the brown bear, declared critically endangered in the Red List of 3 countries and in the List of CITIES . The Perm Zoo garden (in the town of Perm) sold this 2-year old bear to hunters which is a common thing for this zoo to do. In the document made by veterinary inspectors, they write about Motya: "The bear examined by us has a height of an one-year-old brown bear, disproportionate development (a big head and a small little body with undeveloped muscles of the pelvis ), below normal fatness. Because of the small size of the cage and the lack of daily cleaning, the bear is wet and soiled with excrements. This bear is growing up in constrained conditions and is obviously exhausted intentionally, so that it is easier to handle and use him. He is used as a mean for training hunting breeds dogs, which is not in contradiction with hunting rules..."

Thousands of people and many organizations fought for his rescue. In vain. Motya was martyred to death in the hunting  torture-chambers near Perm. At his place, a young female brown bear suffers now ……...

Russian people, well-known scientists and artists expressed their opinions against the hunting law and the hunting rules which legalize hounding. They required and still now require hounding should be banned. In 2013, 2 petitions against hounding were signed in Russia. However, public opinion is not taken into account in Russia. The government, officials and prosecutors write absurd, meaningless and incompetent answers.

Officials hunt wild animals which are on the Red List, from helicopters with impunity, shoot females with cubs. In the Far Eastern of Russia the slaughtering of brown bears, Asian black bears, Amur tigers take place and their dead parts are sent to China.

The bear is a symbol of Russia.
The brown bear is included in the IUCN Red List as a species in danger.  Russia is a member of the IUCN.

In the Bern Convention for the protection of the wild fauna, flora and nature environments in Europe, the bears (Ursidae) are included. Russia is an observer here.
In the Convention of CITES, brown bears are listed as Appendix II. Russia is a member here since 1992. Bears continue to be tortured at many baiting stations.

Just as in 2014 at the Olympic Games in Sochi, we remember the symbol of the Olympic Games in 1980 in Moscow as being a bear.  The female bear Katya who was used as a ‘clown’ in the circus and who has been living without being able to move in a very tight cage in an old rusty bus, without light or ventilation. The famous bear Masha, who worked for many years in a circus, is torn up by hunting dogs in the baiting center of Fryazevo near Moscow.

 We ask you to now initiate in Russia a total legislative ban of hounding and the closure of all baiting centers.
